About the Author

John P. Cody, MPH, MBA, CMA (AAMA), has acquired nearly 30 years of health care and adult education experience. His health care experience began while serving as a general duty Hospital Corpsman in the U.S. Navy. During his military service, he completed training and gained experience as an emergency medical technician, medical laboratory technician, clinical and laboratory supervisor, and administrative supervisor. Shortly before being honorably discharged from the Navy, John completed his B.S. degree in Health Care Management from Southern Illinois University. Being a strong advocate of higher education, John subsequently completed a master's degree in public health administration, as well as one in business management from the University of Minnesota. Concomitantly, John has served as a professor of health sciences, program director, and academic administrator in business and allied health education. John lives with his family in East, Central Illinois.

This is most definitely the best book on the market for preparing for the Medical Assisting exam. I teach medical assisting and this book covers everything I teach in an entire 8 month course. I can't say enough good about this book. The bonus CD is great for hands on exam testing and learning. A must buy for any student or recent graduate. I even find the book a great resource for my teaching and would recommend it to current medical assisting students as a study guide.

I ordered it used and it came to me in a perfect condition, along with an unused CD! There's a lot of information in this book that was not covered in my own textbooks so I enjoyed reading all the chapters very much. I passed my CMA exam, but I can't really say it's because of this book alone. I passed because I was prepared. That being said, I think this book is a keeper!! I know it will still be useful for me in the future.

This book is great and I recommend to everyone taking the CMA exam. I studied the heck out of this book and I believe that is the reason I did so well on the exam. I tested way above the minimum passing score and I think some of that success is owed to this book! Definitely recommend!

Took my California MA exam and passed first try. The dvd with the questions is key. The book itself is structured in outline form with more detail than you need for the exam, but the questions on the dvd make this book a must! I just sat for hours doing the sample questions, took the test and passed with flying colors.

I did not find this review book very helpful for my needs. Luckily, my testing company provided a purchasable study guide/practice test package, which was much better. I don’t feel like appropriate “airport arrival time” is pertinent to the vast majority of CMAs.

This book would be great as a study tool, but it needs some supplemental materials with it. It does a great job as a review (just like the title states) but if you are really trying to study for the test, not just review, you would need some materials that dive a bit deeper into each area. I liked the tests at the end of the book though!

Anyone who is interested in taking their National Board Exams for a medical assistant, this is the book for you! It has practice tests in it and has just about all the info you need. I used this as my study guide for a few months before my exam and I PASSED the exam. I loved the book!!

Good book to have to study for the certification review with some practice tests, but you get unlimited practice tests with the CD that comes with it. Passed my CMA exam on first attempt!
